Volunteer Opportunities for
Career Counselors
First it was Hurricane Katrina, then Hurricane Rita. These were terrible disasters,
but they were followed by an outpouring of concern, contributions and volunteerism
reminding us of the generous spirit of the American people. It inspired MAC/LPN
to ask ourselves what we could do now and what career counselors do every day
to give back to our communities. Join us for a challenging discussion of volunteer
activities your fellow counselors are doing. Meet a panel of four people from
a variety of nonprofit organizations who will talk about how career counselors
have helped them carry out their missions. Share what you do as well and, if interested,
get involved with these groups.
Panel
Fran Becker, Executive Director of Carpenter's Shelter, Northern Virginia's largest
homeless program; Tom Morris, President, Morris Associates
Inc., and head of SURGE (Survival Understanding Recovery Growth through Employment)
for ACP International/DC Chapter; Bob Michon, United
States Peace Corps, Returned Volunteer Career Center, providing resource development
and transitional assistance for returning Peace Corps Volunteers; and
Bob Rudney, Chair of EXCEL! Networking Group, Inc., a non-profit, self-help career
development and educational organization created by people with disabilities for
people with disabilities in the Washington, DC area.
