Review
of Meeting: Toni Little
of Monster, Inc. sent two outstanding presenters to tell us about how Monster.com
is changing the federal government's hiring practices. Dan Maio Newton and Ed
Powell from Monster Government Solutions were charming, warm, smart, witty, and
totally informative. And they gave each attendee a copy of the book, Monster Careers,
by the founder of Monster.com, Jeff Taylor, and each of us got our own little
Monster doll. What more could you want? Actually, what we got, in addition,
was a complete explanation of USAJobs and how it works, and information on Monster,
Inc. and how it works. Monster, Inc. has been in business only ten years. It is
now Monster Worldwide, Inc., and Monster Government Solutions (MGS) is a wholly
owned subsidiary. MGS is the sole vendor for the federal government's Recruitment
One-Stop program and USAJobs and the owner and manager of military.com, military.com/spouse,
fastweb.com (for school searches), Quickhire, and tickle.com (an assessment center.)
After Dan Maio Norton's presentation, everyone felt more comfortable in counseling
clients on how to get a government job. We also learned about Jeff Taylor's
new book on networking and were led through a powerful networking exercise by
Ed Powell. It was a full morning, packed with entertainment and valuable information.
