Two-faced
- A look at Both Sides of Facebook and its Affect on Career Development
with Laurie
Lenz, M.Ed. and Jill Gugino, M.Ed. The Steinbright Career Development Center
Drexel University Friday,
May 18, 2007 8:30AM-Noon George Washington University Marvin Center Room
403 |
The
use of Facebook on college
campuses has exploded since its inception in 2004. There are over 9 million users
and it receives 250 million hits every day. According to the website, Facebook
helps people better understand their world by giving them access to the information
that is most relevant to them. Its intention was to connect people through social
networks, but the results have created a major concern for student affairs professionals
and career counselors. This
workshop will explore the history and creation of Facebook as well as provide
an inside look into user profiles. It will also discuss in depth the positive
uses: networking with potential employers, promoting events and meeting new people.
The workshop will also explore its negative uses: identity theft, stalkers, and
hate groups. This will be a very interactive workshop! Presenters: Laurie
Lenz, M.Ed. and Jill Gugino, M.Ed. are on the staff of the Steinbright Career
Development Center at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
