Review
of Meeting: Report of program, November
14, 2006 CAREER UNDER
CONSTRUCTION Dr. Mark Savickas On
November 14, 2006, MAC/LPN participated in a joint event with the Maryland Career
Development Association and the Student Adlerian Society in sponsoring an exceptional
program featuring Dr. Mark Savickas, noted educator, counselor, and author. Over
80 people attended this outstanding program to learn about Dr. Savickas's theory
and practice of Career Construction and use of Adlerian Individual Psychology
as a tool in career counseling. We learned about using life themes and memories
to inform our career counseling process and to enhance our ability to really hear
what our clients are saying. Dr. Savickas then demonstrated with a member of the
audience how he uses his structured interview, The Career Style Interview, to
reach the individual's core values, and how those values affect career decision
and choice. It was an inspiring and moving glimpse at watching a master at work,
and everyone was touched by the presentation. The evaluations were all very positive,
and we left with increased motivation and commitment to our profession. We
are grateful to the Student Adlerian Society for providing the facilities of Bowie
State University, which were excellent.
